Events

Elizabeth loves to connect our neighbors through fun events, some of which raise much needed funds for trees, holiday parties and more. The event dates fluctuate from year to year and will be posted here when they are announced but events usually happen during the same seasons each year, as noted below.

The Merry Meander

Born out of the Covid pandemic, the Merry Meander is a joyful holiday walk through Elizabeth. This year, the Meander will be on December 22nd with a rain date of December 21. This event is designed for Elizabethans to share and join together during the busy holiday season. Neighbors decorate their homes, play music on their porches, host cookie decorating and other kid friendly activities and generally share the holiday spirit through food and entertainment. Not a public event.

Elizabeth 8K Road Race

The 38th annual Elizabeth 8K took place on Saturday, April 27, 2024. This is Charlotte’s oldest 8K race and also includes a 1.5M untimed fun run/walk as well as the Liz Kids’ Fun Run for the little ones. The course provides a fantastic tour of the scenic tree-lined residential and commercial streets of the Elizabeth neighborhood. Proceeds benefit the beautification of the Elizabeth neighborhood and TreesCharlotte. In addition to free t-shirts and entertainment from our very own Elvis, i.e. The Big E, participants and volunteers enjoyed post race festivities that included music, beverages, awards, and much more. Be sure to follow Elizabeth8K on Instagram and/or Facebook.

Elizabeth Egg Hunt

Elizabeth welcomes the return of spring with the family friendly Elizabeth Egg Hunt.  Kids of all ages are invited to bring baskets and hunt for stuffed eggs and meet the Easter bunny at this annual gathering.

The Annual Meeting

September 24th from 6:30 – 8:30 we will gathered at St. John’s Broad Hall to vote on new board members, review the past year, and reconnect with friends and neighbors.

Don’t forget to renew your membership each year to be eligible to vote at the annual meeting. You can even subscribe and avoid the hassle of renewing each year.

The Great Elizabeth Pumpkin Wall

A beloved Elizabeth tradition, the Great Elizabeth Pumpkin Wall was lit for the 20th year on October 27th at 6:45 pm. Thanks to all who made this a success over the years including this year’s hosts, Rob and Dale Hall, neighborhood volunteers and ECA members who fund this fabulous event!

Thanks also several of our neighborhood businesses. Simpson’s Produce generously provided 160 pumpkins to Elizabeth at cost. Biscuit Belly donated a delicious breakfast to our hungry wall construction crew. Bourgeois McGinn provided a safe place to store our pumpkins.  And Scrap Daddy composted the pumpkins to keep our event green.

Finally, thanks to the original Woodpeckers, whose creativity and industriousness kicked off an event that has become an integral Charlotte tradition. Thank you to Byron Baldwin for his 20th Anniversary display and for playing with his band, The Back Alley String Band, at the pumpkin carving party.  And to today’s kings of the wall, John Short and Nate Negrin:  thanks for leading our intrepid neighborhood construction team.
